Jim Cramer of CNBC’s Squawk on the Street recently called Windows Phone “cool.”

The Nokia Lumia 900 hit the scene in April and pre-sales of an “even cooler” limited edition “The Dark Knight Rises”™ version of the device reportedly began last week in the UK.

The number of apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace has grown by 60 percent, to nearly 80,000 from January to March of this year according to the Windows Phone Blog. During that same time, they report that the number of customer stores around the world nearly doubled, providing 54 markets for developers to sell their apps.

Yes, it appears Windows Phone is here to stay.

In the coming months, we expect handset manufacturers around the globe to make a big splash in the marketplace. Wireless carriers will likely respond with serious marketing campaigns to raise awareness and entice consumers with the unique features and benefits of Windows Phone.

If how I anticipate this to play out sounds familiar, it should. Remember not too long ago when global carriers made a significant commitment to Android? Some would argue that Verizon Wireless’ investment in the launch of the Motorola Droid helped fuel the tremendous growth of the Android ecosystem. Will we see the same happen in the coming months for Windows Phone? I hope so.

To help developers make the most of this opportunity, Millennial Media offers a suite of self-service mobile advertising tools. Today, we’re pleased to announce the release of our latest Windows Phone SDK. This SDK is packed with innovative features that make it easier to integrate with us and earn more through in-app advertising.

The SDK allows developers to integrate banner and rich media ads, and now includes support for interactive video ads. Campaigns utilizing these engaging ad formats are in high demand and can deliver generous eCPMs for Windows Phone developers.

The Windows Phone 4.5 SDK also features:
