Smartphones Make Super Bowl Sunday More ‘Super’

As Americans gear up for Super Bowl XLVIII this Sunday, we teamed up with the IAB to recap how viewers plan to watch the big game, and how they plan to use their smartphones.

Here are just a few of the highlights:

  • According to an IAB survey conducted online by Harris Interactive in January, among over 2,000 U.S. adults, 74% of American adults are planning to watch the Super Bowl this year, as compared to 70% in 2012.
  • In 2012, 43% of Americans planning to watch the Super Bowl owned a smartphone. In 2014, that number increased to 61%.
  • During the 2013 Super Bowl, mobile traffic to Sports apps on the Millennial Media platform was 54% higher than an average Sunday.
  • 57% of smartphone owners planning to watch this year’s Super Bowl expect to use their mobile devices throughout the game.
